This book was published in 1974, in which Dr. Mustafa Mahmoud answers the questions of his atheist friend, an imaginary friend with whom he engages in an intellectual dialogue that extends for nineteen chapters. He addresses the atheist friend's questions and answers them based on science and logic and without relying on religious convictions in responding to a wide spectrum of questions. Questions such as: How did God exist, and why does He hold me accountable when He has determined my actions, and why did God create evil, and what is the sin of the one who did not reach the Qur'an, and is religion opium for the people, and what is the soul, and what is the position of religion on evolution?
مصطفى محمود (27 ديسمبر 1921 – 31 أكتوبر 2009)، هو فيلسوف وطبيب وكاتب مصري. ألف 89 كتابًا منها الكتب العلمية والدينية والفلسفية والاجتماعية والسياسية إضافة إلى الحكايات والمسرحيات وقصص الرحلات، ويتميز أسلوبه بالجاذبية مع العمق والبساطة. كان مصطفى محمود مقدّمًا لأكثر من 400 حلقة من برنامجه التلفزيوني الشهير (العلم والإيمان). أنشأ عام 1979 مسجده في الجيزة المعروف باسم «مسجد مصطفى محمود». ويتبع له ثلاثة مراكز طبية تهتم بعلاج ذوي الدخل المحدود. وشكل قوافل للرحمة من ستة عشر طبيبًا، ويضم المسجد الجمعية الفلكية بمسجد محمود، ومتحفاً للجيولوجيا، يقوم عليه أساتذة متخصصون. ويضم المتحف مجموعة من الصخور الجرانيتية، والفراشات المحنطة بأشكالها المتنوعة وبعض الكائنات البحرية. أُطلق على كويكب اسم (296753) مصطفى محمود تكريمًا له.
