DGM
The need for light-weight materials created renewed interest in innovative applications of magnesium materials. The main driving force for new applications is still the automotive industry. Besides magnesium alloys are widely used in the communications industry primarily for housings. To support the increasing interest in magnesium applications and to take these opportunities it is important to give a positive feedback. All material groups, the different light metal materials as feedback. All material groups, the different light metal materials as well as polymers and steel, compete with each other. In this competition economical aspects play a very important role, besides there are material and component characteristics, which also influence the choice of material.

These conference proceedings show the correlation of processing, microstructure and properties for magnesium materials. The complexity of interactions must be understood to use the full potential of magnesium materials for a particular application. Additionally an overview session of ongoing research projects is given, though the reader will find a complete overview on the state-of-the-art of the current magnesium research and development.
